The Calamondin Orange tree, also known as Chinese orange, Panama orange, golden lime and scarlet lime, will make a lasting gift. The Calamondin is considered to be the easiest to care for of all the citrus trees, ideal for a sunny windowsill.
A decorative plant with year round interest, the calamondin orange tree produces striking fragrant flowers and fruit about three times a year. The Calamondin Orange tree produces a small fruit about the size of a kumquat and juicy with a sour taste that is excellent for preserves and jams. The calamondin fruits can be picked any time after ripening.
Best grown in a pot where it can be placed in a frost-free place in winter, the calamondin will do well on a cool light window sill indoors, or in a sheltered outdoor spot in summer, preferring a minimum winter temperature of 5ºc, a little higher by day.
The Calamondin Orange tree thrives as a dwarf orange tree and likes full sun and grows 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide holding the ripe fruit a long time.

I have a beautiful tree that we purchased in Clearwater Fl. 23 years ago and just recently learned that the fruits could be used in cooking. It is now about 5-6 feet tall. I put it out in the yard in the summer but put it in my heated (50 degrees) for the winter. The fragrance of the blossoms is incredible and it produces copias amounts of fruit. We intend to experiment with various recipes found on the internet, but would appreciate any additional infor and recipes that my be out there.
We purchased one of the pictured above (same as ours) to give to the neighbor who has been attending ours during our 2 month trip to Florida.
